Completion of our first retirement living project for Anchor Trust

Thomasons has recently completed work on Hurst Place, a £12m retirement village near the centre of Haywards Heath, Sussex. This is one of five projects on which we are working for Anchor, England’s largest not-for-profit provider of housing and care for the over 55s.

The main building at Hurst Place houses 58 independent living apartments, together with communal facilities including a lounge, café/bistro and beauty salon. 10 cottages in the landscaped grounds were completed late last year.

The substructure of the central building was designed as a piled raft because of the ground conditions and high water table; its superstructure is a light gauge steel frame with concrete/metal deck floors and a timber roof. The cottages were constructed with timber frames.

Other projects currently in hand for Anchor include similar developments at Kings Hill, Kent and Sarisbury Green, Hampshire.
