Anchors away for Thomasons

Shortly after starting work on a development in Kent for Anchor Trust, Thomasons is ready to go ahead with two more Anchor projects in Shinfield and Newmarket that have recently been given planning permission.

Each development’s location presents a unique set of challenges. Located on the edge of a former gas works site, the Newmarket building needs to be carefully designed to avoid encroaching on a high-pressure gas main that crosses the site. The complexity and coordination is amplified as an Aldi supermarket is also being built adjacent.

At the Shinfield site, problem solving must overcome Mother Nature, where high ground water levels will affect the kind of foundations we can use. Further, a low rate of surface water discharge into the public sewer system will necessitate extensive water attenuation.

Steve McSorley, director at Thomasons, comments: “We’ve developed a great relationship with Anchor, having worked on four schemes with them now. As we continue our work on retirement living developments, we’re able to evolve and develop the construction methodologies that Anchor prefers to suit a different style of building from those we’ve previously designed for them.”
