Nick Russell invited to judge prestigious Structural Awards 2019
The Institution of Structural Engineers’ 52nd Structural Awards is open for entries. As projects are put forward, behind the scenes the Institution is readying its panel of judges, who will be responsible for selecting the shortlist and winners for 13 categories.
Joining 18 other experts on engineering, architecture and design, Nick Russell has been invited to judge the 2019 awards. With over 30 years’ experience in the industry, Nick’s no stranger to the organisation, having joined in 1982 and serving as its president in 2014.
The judging process comprises three stages, starting with an independent review of all entries by the judges, where points are awarded based on evidence of meeting the award criteria. A ‘sitting judging panel’ then evaluates the highest scoring entries to create the shortlist. Finally, an invited judging panel, comprised only of judges without any potential conflict of interest with the shortlisted entries, meets to select the winners.
Commenting on the invitation to judge the awards, Nick says: “I’ve attended the awards ceremony for many years and previously had a project entry highly commended, so it’s a great privilege to have been asked to be a judge. The awards celebrate the huge ability and creativity of our profession and I know that having to choose the winners of each category and the Supreme Award will be an exciting challenge.”
Entries are being accepted until 17th April. The shortlist will be announced on 1st August.
