How T-Levels are solving the engineering skills gap
As National Apprenticeship Week 2026 highlights the diverse routes into professional careers, the T-Level has emerged as a vital bridge between academic study and the engineering industry. At Perega, we are proud to support this pathway, integrating students into the world of structural engineering through a hands-on, 315-hour placement.
For Bebe Bain-Daniels, a previous at Perega, the journey began with a moment of inspiration, in her own words: “My family had encouraged me to start the engineering T-level after they heard an advert for it on the radio, and it really stood out to me as it offered a balanced mix of classroom instruction and industry placement.”

After completing her GCSEs, Bebe sought a “best of both worlds” education, one that combined academic rigour with the real-world application required for a long-term career.
This approach enabled her to experience college life with friends while gaining “invaluable hands-on experience” that deepened her practical knowledge.
“I have had the opportunity to work alongside experienced professionals who are always eager to teach me their niche, tackling real engineering challenges.”

The defining feature of the T-Level is the mandatory 45-day (315-hour) industry placement. Unlike traditional, short-term work experience, this duration empowers students like Bebe to become integrated members of a professional team, working directly alongside our experts to solve genuine engineering hurdles.
Thinking about her experience, Bebe said, “It not only honed my skills but confirmed my passion in the field.” Bebe added. “It was through my school that I was offered a place at Perega, where I continued to grow as a part of their welcoming and talented engineering team.”
Bebe’s journey proves that when industry and education align, the result is a focused, motivated, and technically capable pipeline of talent. Our team remains committed to building the next generation of engineers, ensuring the classroom and the drawing board are closer than ever before.
