A fond farewell: Steve McSorley retires after 36 years at Perega
After almost four decades of dedication, expertise and leadership, Steve McSorley is hanging up his high-vis as he steps into retirement. Since joining Perega in 1988, he has been a driving force behind countless projects across the UK.
Equipped with a degree in civil engineering and five years as a project engineer, the foundations were set for Steve to rise through the ranks and become one of the company’s most experienced and respected figures. His determination, technical prowess and enthusiasm have been invaluable over the years, helping Perega to grow into one of the UK’s leading structural engineering consultancies.
Beyond his technical expertise, Steve has been a friend to all and a mentor to many within the company, sharing his vast knowledge to shape the next generation of engineers. Many of the people he has guided over the years now lead their own teams, continuing the legacy he helped build.
Steve’s passion for building strong client relationships has also been a cornerstone of his and Perega’s success. His ability to navigate complex projects while maintaining stakeholder trust has made him a go-to structural engineering expert in the healthcare, retirement living, residential, education and commercial sectors.
While he might be stepping away from his full-time role, Steve will remain a trusted consultant to Perega, ensuring his knowledge and insights continue to benefit the team and our clients.
Looking back on his time with Perega, Steve says, “I feel fortunate to have worked on such a diverse range of projects alongside many talented colleagues, all of whom have become firm friends. I know I leave the team in good hands, yet I look forward to staying in touch and chipping in when I can as a consultant. One of the things I’ll miss most is the people who make Perega what it is today, especially all those I’ve worked with through thick and thin. I wish the business the best as it continues to go from strength to strength.
Ewa Ambrosius is my successor as the operations director responsible for the Leytonstone office. We’ve been working together on the handover of the role for some months now, and I have every confidence in her ability to take the office forward. I wish her every success in doing so.”
Our Managing Director, Fraser Robb, adds, “Steve has been a pillar of Perega for nearly 37 years, not just for his technical expertise but for the energy, wisdom and camaraderie he has brought to the team. His calm, methodical approach to complex problems has been invaluable, and his mentorship has shaped the careers of many within the business. While we’ll certainly miss his day-to-day presence, we’re fortunate that he’ll continue to offer his support. On behalf of the whole team, I want to thank Steve for his exceptional service and wish him a fulfilling retirement.”
