Thomasons carries out exciting new works on film studio project

Thomasons was appointed by Crest Nicholson to carry out the structural design and manage the building regulations approval process for the conversion of three large ex-military buildings in Arborfield, Berkshire into working film studios that are currently being used by a famous US production company.

The works at Arborfield required significant investigation of the existing structure and foundations, including strengthening the existing rook structure and installing high level platforms and gantries to support lighting and other filming equipment. Works included forming large roller shutter door openings to allow access for filming equipment and props, together with the removal of load bearing walls.

Thomasons has a long-standing relationship with Crest Nicholson working on film studio and film set design, including at Longcross Studios. Previous works involved converting industrial buildings into film studios, adapting existing buildings for specific productions or designing film sets.
