Sheesh Mahal in Leeds reopens after 2015 Boxing Day floods
Thomasons is proud to have been involved in the restoration of Sheesh Mahal, a popular Leeds-based restaurant which has reopened more than a year after the Boxing Day floods in 2015. Thomasons’ experts played a leading role in the restoration of the building, providing contract administration and project management services.
The restaurant, owned by Azram Chaudhry, was one of the businesses in the area which suffered most as a result of the floods. The devastation caused was vast; the eight-foot deep cellar kitchen was flooded to its full depth, causing water to leak into the main restaurant and resulting in severe damage.
Thomasons tendered the works and oversaw the repairs through to completion. After the property was dried out, the team prepared a schedule of reinstatement works.
Project Manager Mathew Fairie reflects: “The biggest challenge for the team was ensuring that the restored space was compliant with current regulations, such as Food Standards Agency requirements.
Now the project has been completed, we are delighted that Azram Chaudhry was able to welcome his first customers back into the restaurant on 1st March.”
