Latest phase of Queen Mary’s Hospital transformation almost complete

Thomasons is pleased to have played its part in the latest phase of the ongoing transformation of Queen Mary’s Hospital in Sidcup, led by Oxleas NHS Foundation Trust.

The £22.9m project focused on one of the main buildings, Block B. Over the past 13 months, the ground and first floors have been redeveloped to provide modern clinical accommodation and bring together outpatient services.

The main entrance has been revamped to give visitors a better experience when they arrive. Thomasons’ engineers designed a new opening that enhances the natural light flowing into the building and guides people to the main reception on the first floor. A new courtyard infill increases the available space at ground floor, while retaining the natural light. Further works include plantwork support on the existing roof structure and significant alterations to the below ground drainage.

Work is almost complete and Block B will formally re-open on Saturday 9th September as part of the hospital’s centenary celebrations.
