Environmental Policy
1. Environmental Scope
This Environmental Policy is supported by the Board of Directors, will be communicated to all employees using the Perega Hub, and will be available to clients, stakeholders and the general public via the Perega website.
Our Environmental Policy and Environmental Processes are applicable to all Perega offices and cover all activities undertaken by the organisation.
The Net Zero Carbon Group, Management System Lead and the Director of Perega’s management system are responsible for reviewing the Environmental Policy and objectives annually as a minimum.
2. Environmental Policy Statement and Commitments
Perega is an award-winning independent civil and structural engineering consultancy, offering engineering design and complementary services nationwide through a network of six offices.
Our services comprise structural, civil and glass engineering design, together with building surveying, advice on health and safety, environmental issues, and expert witness services.
Perega have a Net Zero Carbon Group that proactively assist with making systematic changes to Perega’s operations to advise our clients on environmental matters and help to contribute to meeting the net zero target by 2050.
As part of this process the group have created and launched an internal carbon calculation Revit tool that is able to automatically calculate embodied carbon. This allows us to meaningfully compare civil and structural schemes whilst developing our understanding of embodied carbon and how we can most effectively contribute to reaching net zero carbon goals.
Wherever appropriate, we pursue lower carbon, energy efficient designs, specify materials which are sourced from sustainable and renewable origins, promote the upgrading of existing buildings as opposed to demolition and new build, and consider the potential for the recycling and re-use of materials on site.
In addition, Perega promotes recycling in our office spaces, the minimisation of waste, the use of renewable energy sources where viable, and the adoption of sustainable travel in our operations.
We are committed to compliance with environmental legislation and to increase awareness we provide necessary training to all employees, internal contractors and suppliers to ensure environmentally responsible business strategies are integrated into our work and office spaces.
Perega are actively working towards ISO 14001 Accreditation and as part of that commitment we identify environmental aspects and the associated impacts that Perega contribute to and determine management procedures that can be incorporated into strategic business decisions. We work alongside developments in research, policy and technology to produce environmentally sustainable designs and when appointed to do so, advise clients and other companies who work with us how to deliver lower carbon sustainable solutions in the built environment.
