Inspiring new Science Centre opens at Bedford Modern School

A state-of-the-art new Science Centre at Bedford Modern School – for which Thomasons provided structural and civil engineering services – was formally opened on Friday 16th June.

The £9m three-storey Science Centre includes 17 laboratories and adjacent preparation space. A separate floor is dedicated to each discipline – biology, chemistry and physics – and a central learning atrium provides a flexible teaching and display area.

Cutting edge design and construction create a light and airy environment that is conducive to learning. Designed as a reinforced concrete frame, the superstructure incorporates a full-height brise soleil feature.

Michael Hall, Headmaster at this private school of 1,200 students, describes the new Science Centre as ”an incredible new facility which will continue to inspire countless young scientists for many years to come.”
