Thomasons’ role in new state-of-the-art veterinary hospital

Thomasons has been appointed as civil engineers on an exciting project to construct a new state-of-the-art veterinary hospital in Surrey Research Park, on the University of Surrey campus in Guildford. The hospital, specialising in oncology treatments, is for specialist veterinary referral practice Fitzpatrick Referrals, which features in The Super Vet series on Channel 4.

Appointed by contractors Barnwood Construction, Thomasons is responsible for every aspect of the civil engineering work. We have carried out the earthworks required to position the building on the side of a steep hill and designed the surrounding roads, landscaping, parking, retaining walls and drainage system.

Thomasons engineers are also involved in specialist elements of the construction work, for example in giving expert advice on the specification of the walls and roofs in treatment rooms that contain cutting-edge medical equipment requiring a high level of protection.

Work started on site last summer and is expected to be complete in July 2015.

Thomasons has been involved in other projects on the university campus, including the design of a sports terrace at Surrey Sports Park, the county’s leading sports venue.
