Tormead School, Guildford

Perega has worked for many years in partnership with Tormead, one of the UK’s leading independent girls’ schools located in Guildford, Surrey.

Our engineers provided the structural design for the school’s performing arts centre and junior school building.

Most recently, Perega acted as structural and civil engineers in an ambitious project to transform the school with superb new facilities to provide an outstanding learning environment.

The project was carried out in three phases over three years. Phase one provided two new common rooms, new art rooms and a drop-off zone for coaches.

In phases, two and three, a large section of the school was demolished to make way for a new building, which houses a stunning multi-purpose atrium, new library with separate 6th form mezzanine, design and technology room and 25 large classrooms. Wider corridors and breakout areas extend the space and full disabled access has been provided throughout the senior school.

Perega was responsible for the design of the new building, retaining structures and underground drainage.

Working in a school environment brings the challenge of minimising disruption during works while the school operates as normal. Despite working in a restricted space within existing buildings, the work was carried out effectively, on time and on budget.
