SportHouse, Mayesbrook Park

Perega was appointed as structural and civil engineers for SportHouse, a new sports complex in Mayesbrook Park, Dagenham, which was one of only three new training venues commissioned for the 2012 London Olympics.

Our engineers carried out the full design of the superstructure including the 50m x 100m clear span roof to the sports hall, which incorporates curved cellular rafters. Extending to a massive 5,000m² and with space for around 3,000 spectators, the sports hall is one of the largest in the UK.

Attached to the sports hall is a three-storey block housing two gyms with 300 exercise stations. Entrance is via a striking double-height reception area.

Modern and innovative materials including single-layer composite cladding were used, as well as cutting edge ground improvement techniques to ensure economical and rapid construction.

Perega also designed the external infrastructure, including the surface water drainage, which required a very shallow conveyancing network to discharge water into a series of swales. These swales form part of the wider Mayesbrook Park regeneration scheme, providing attenuation for the sports complex as well as improving amenities and bio-diversity for the local area.

Today, SportHouse continues to be a prized legacy sports centre for athletes and the local community.
