Hurst Place, Sussex

Client: Anchor Trust

Architect: PRC Architects

Contractor: Castleoak

Value: £12 million

Perega acted as structural engineers for Hurst Place, a £12m retirement village near the centre of Haywards Heath in West Sussex by Anchor, England’s largest not-for-profit provider of housing and care for the over 55s.

The development comprises a central building that houses 58 luxurious independent living apartments, together with first-class facilities including a lounge, café/bistro and hair and beauty salon. In addition, there are ten cottages in the landscaped grounds.

Perega designed the substructure of the central building as a piled raft to take account of the ground conditions and high water table; its superstructure is a light gauge steel frame with concrete/metal deck floors and a timber roof. The cottages were constructed with timber frames.

Anchor has a major development programme underway to deliver around 900 properties over the next four years. Perega is working with Anchor on similar developments at Kings Hill in Kent and Sarisbury Green in Hampshire.
