Graduate Structural Engineer, Waterloo
Role
We are looking for a bright, enthusiastic and driven graduate engineer who is keen to develop their career. You will be responsible for assisting others with design work on projects and tasks, with moderate supervision, to ensure the tasks are delivered as briefed. This includes communicating with the client, other consultants and colleagues in the delivery of projects whilst maintaining a positive client relationship. As part of this role you will have a commitment to self-development and the improvement of your technical skills and knowledge.

Responsibilities of the role
- Execute and coordinate work as directed by senior staff
- Produce design calculations
- Assist with the preparation of sketch plans, working drawings, specifications and reports
- Assist with planning site investigation works
- Assist with preparing feasibility studies and providing design advice
- Assist with the development and use of computer-based systems to improve efficiency
- Undertake site inspection and attend site meetings
- Produce designs, assessments and calculations in accordance with quality procedures
- Liaise effectively with clients, other design team members and third parties
- Understand and adhere to existing working practices, methods and procedures
- Adopt ‘best practice’
- Work within the given programme and cost constraints
- Proactive in self-development
Key skills
Essential
- University degree in civil or structural engineering
- Good understanding of engineering principles
- Good interpersonal skills
- Good communication skills
- Proactive approach to work
- Commitment to continual improvement at a personal and company level
- Good understanding of construction procedures
- Able to produce hand calculations and sketches of structural elements
- Conversant in designing to British Standards/UK version of Eurocodes
- Conversant in designing structures in concrete, steelwork, timber and masonry
- Able to use computer design software packages
- Understanding of CDM regulations and the responsibilities of a designer
- Able to understand engineering concepts
- Good written and verbal communication skills
- Able to produce accurate and clear sketches
- Able to work effectively within and across teams and with colleagues
Preferable
- Knowledge of design software and its limitations
- Knowledge of AutoCAD
Salary
