Graduate Building Surveyor

Role

We are looking for a bright, enthusiastic and driven graduate building surveyor with a minimum of 1 year’s post-graduation experience, who is keen to develop their career. You will be assisting others with building surveying work on projects and tasks with moderate supervision to ensure the projects, tasks and surveys are delivered as briefed. This includes carrying out a variety of surveys, whilst providing clear, detailed and informative reports. You will communicate with clients, other consultants and colleagues to ensure a brief is agreed and adhered to in the delivery of the projects, whilst maintaining a positive client relationship.

The successful candidate will be required to have a flexible approach to problem solving and the management and running of projects, working in a small, friendly team of structural engineers and building surveyors. Attention to detail is imperative to ensure client expectations are fully satisfied.

Travel throughout the country will be required, although principally throughout the north and Midlands.

Responsibilities of the role

  • Execute and coordinate work as directed by senior staff
  • Assist with the preparation of sketch plans, working drawings, specifications and reports
  • Assist with preparing feasibility studies and providing design advice
  • Undertake site inspections and attend site meetings
  • Produce designs, assessments and reports in accordance with quality procedures
  • Liaise effectively with clients, other design team members and third parties
  • Understand and adhere to existing working practices, methods and procedures
  • Work within the given programme and cost constraints
  • Proactive in self-development

Key skills

Essential

  • University degree in building surveying
  • Enthusiastic and adaptable approach to work and the learning of new skills
  • Good communication skills
  • Good understanding of surveying and construction principles, methods and materials
  • Understanding of CDM Regulations, Building Regulations, Party Wall Act 1996 and planning law
  • Specification and schedule of works writing
  • Report writing
  • Diagnosis of building defects and good working knowledge of building construction
  • Planned maintenance inspections and preparation of PMI reports
  • Commitment to continual improvement at a personal and company level
  • Good working knowledge of Microsoft Office
  • Working towards MRICS

Preferable

  • An understanding of contract procedures
  • Working knowledge of CAD design software

Familiar with the use of NBS

Salary
