New HRBs must now go through the Building Safety Regulator (BSR) Gateway process, which introduces additional scrutiny at planning, design and construction stages. The structural design, coordination and documentation must be clearly developed before construction begins and any changes during construction must be properly managed and approved.

For developers and the wider design team, this means more of the structural design needs to be agreed earlier in the project as once construction starts, it becomes much harder to make changes without going through the Gateway approval process again.

We provide structural engineering support from early concept design through to construction and completion including:

  • Coordination with architects and the wider design team
  • Structural information for Gateway submissions
  • Responding to BSR queries during the approvals process
  • Change control support during construction
  • Structural information required as part of the Golden Thread

The Gateway process places a strong emphasis on design coordination, clear information and change control. Where structural design is not sufficiently developed or where changes are made during construction without proper approval, this can lead to delays on site.

We support project teams by developing the structural design to the required level before Gateway submission, coordinating with the wider design team and providing clear structural information to support the approval process. During construction, we can also support change control and respond to queries to help avoid delays.
